PHOTOGRAPHS IN PERSPECTIVE

Millions of words have been written about photoshopped images of Madeleine McCann, but here we leave photoshopping aside. This post will be about simple questions arising from the photographs released.  The description  of Madeleine given to the police is of interest here for purposes of comparing photographs with the actual information given to the Police.  1)

The ‘First’ photo:

Questions:

How could a photo of a child around 2 to 2.5 years old help find the girl represented in the tennis photo or the iconic  ‘Red dress’ photo? They appear to be two totally different children, neither of them recent images when there should have been dozens of photos just from the holiday. 

This photo was allegedly on the Canon A620 camera on the evening of the 3^rd of May 2007. However, this camera was not released  until October 2005, the first review of the new camera appeared in November 2005 and most reviews were in early 2006. By October 2005 Madeleine was  2.5 years old. Therefore – if the first photo was ever taken with the Canon A620, it should have been pretty well the first one on it, many other snaps, including the ‘tennis’ photo would have come first when going through the memory card.

Parents tend to carry favourite photos of their children in their wallets (and indeed Gerry McCann was most upset at losing some 'special' photographs of Madeleine when his wallet was ‘stolen’ in July 2007 - however it was returned within days with the photographs).  Saving favourite photos on phones is even more common now, but leaving one on the memory card of one’s camera is not helpful if you want to have a look at the image from time to time. Certainly not if it was taken years ago.

Notes: Madeleine aged at most two years and six months. Hair colour: light brown.

The ‘tennis photo’ :

Pat Perkins, a friend of Kate McCann’s mother,  was responsible for instigating the first chain e-mail in which she asked for help to find Madeleine. The e-mail, which clearly stated that Madeleine had been abducted, was first sent out on Monday 07 May 2007.

For some reason the photograph was released after it was ‘flipped’.  That is:  the description given to the police mentions ‘a small brown mark on Left Leg Calf’.  When Madeleine faces towards the left,  the mark is on the left leg.

However, this ‘important’ photo  was taken on the 1^st of May according to Kate McCann, Rachael Mampilly states it was taken on the 3^rd of May and not by Kate but by Jane Tanner. This is from the book ‘madeleine’by Kate McCann:

 ‘She looked so gorgeous in her little T-shirt and shorts, pink hat, ankle socks and new holiday sandals that I ran back to our apartment for my camera. ‘  [..] I went to meet Gerry, whose lesson had started at ten-fifteen ‘ [.]  ‘During Gerry’s tennis lesson, Madeleine and Ella came to the adjoining court with their Mini Club for a mini-tennis session [..] One of my photographs is known around the world now: a smiling Madeleine clutching armfuls of tennis balls. ‘

Questions:

The Lobster schedule of events for that morning was: 'Happy handprint stars (none of the artwork produced in the crèche was ever exhibited by the McCanns), Pool, Salt dough rockets. ' Mini tennis was between 10 – 11 on Monday the 30^th of April.

The tennis court booking sheet for Tuesday the 1^st gives us some information but Gerry McCann does not appear on the list until 3.30 to 4.30 for Court 2.  So as for Gerry’s tennis lesson starting at ten, or indeed once again that very precise time given:  10.15, there is no corroboration.

The girl in the tennis photo is most definitely not a mere 90 cm in height. Allowing for the angle and taking into account that the diameter of a tennis ball is 6.35 cm, her height can be calculated as the tennis balls are in the same plane as her body. She would then be a normal height for a nearly 4 year old, 110 cm to 114 cm.

As for the detailed description of her clothes, these are hardly of the quality and ‘newness’ of the ‘last photo’ outfit and the sandals certainly don’t look new, apart from being entirely the wrong shoes for tennis. One would expect  her to have worn trainers such as can be seen in the photograph below.

Another guest, Bridget O’Donnell wrote: It was Thursday, May 3.Earlier that day there had been tennis lessons for the children, with some of the parents watching proudly as their girls ran across the court chasing tennis balls. They took photos. Madeleine must have been there, but I couldn't distinguish her from the others. They all looked the same - all blonde, all pink and pretty. 2)

Notes: Madeleine’s uneven teeth are clear to see, the photo has been flipped, was used in chain mail letter and date and time of taking the photo is unclear. Hair is longer than in either the first photo and the red dress photo, colour light brown.

The playground photo:

If any photograph should have been favourite, I would have expected it  to be the happy and relaxed little girl  in the playground. This is one of the photos from the CD compiled by Gerry McCann and David Payne and handed to the PJ on the 9^th of May 2007.

Here she is wearing an outfit similar to that seen in the video taken in the airport bus. She is also wearing very nice little trainers, which were described by the cleaner who thinks she saw the twins and Madeleine on Sunday morning. All were wearing trainers with little lights on the side. In the many photographs of the twins in the early days, no such trainers can be seen, indeed, have never been seen. Sean does wear trainers in some photos, but not the ones described by the clear. Neither is Madeleine wearing them on the tennis court. 

Notes: This girl is approximately  100 cm in length and could be anything from 3 to 4 years old, although on the short side for  4 years. Her height was estimated by the known height of the plastic playhouse door in other photos taken at the time. 

Her teeth do not appear to have any gaps and  her hair deserves some attention as she is clearly growing out last summer’s lightened hair,  but the last five/six month’s growth is darker, which makes it about right for the time of year. No doubt this would lighten in the sun during the coming summer.

But the description as given to the PJ at the time of disappearance states: ‘Blond hair with chestnut tips touching the shoulders.’

The  football shirt photos:

These are very strange.  One of these girls is definitely Madeleine,  the other girl has quite a different smile, a broader face and her hair is very blond. It is almost inevitable that one is reminded of the iconic and tragic last photo of the two Soham girls of 2002. Just five years before Madeleine disappeared. Was it the intention to have one photograph of two girls in Everton shirts together?  Could it possibly be the case that it was thought too obvious?  It could explain why both photos were released, it makes no sense however to release both and may well have been an accident.

The blonde girl seems very confident and relaxed,  Madeleine doesn’t look at all confident. An unnatural smile not showing her teeth. ( Compare to pool photo, tennis photo). The adult gesture of touching her hair, mainly seen in women aware of their appearance, but not a natural gesture for a child. Both faces could be pasted on bodies of teenagers and it would not make them look strange. Neither of the two look like four year olds in my opinion, but this is due to the impression of make-up on one child - the blonde girl looks like she's wearing eye make-up and lipstick and the one (in my opinion definitely photo-shopped, blurring on left cheek, head positioned slightly too far to the left)  image of Maddie has the adult gesture and somewhat sad smile.

Notes:  It may not be relevant, but Clarence Mitchell had reported on the Soham murders and told the press at one stage that he’d thought at the start that  the Madeleine case would be much the same as the Soham tragedy.  It would be relevant if the Everton photos emerged after Mitchell became their spokesman. 

Photo’s taken in a playground: 3)

These were released by the family and are somewhat of a puzzle. I seems to me:

1. That Madeleine is about three years old there.
2. That she is or has been ill.

Notes: There is something wrong with her hair, both photographs can only be explained  if she was wearing a wig at the time. These are my observations only, but I wanted to add my opinion here. In the close up, tufts of hair and a bald area can clearly be seen. In the black and white photo a badly fitting wig would explain the strange shape of the head.

The following clips illustrate the difference of the teeth: 

 This photograph is one of several listed as being of Madeleine. This girl's teeth have no gaps and are very different from those seen in e.g. the last photo.

11th May 2007: Extract from Diario de Noticias:
Gerry McCann reads a short prepared statement to the waiting press [..] He specifically emphasises that they will 'leave no stone unturned' in the seaarch for Madeleine. [..] It would appear from this statement that the name of the company had already been decided and that this was a form of public preparation for the launch of Madeleine's Fund. 

The lawyers who arrived on the 11th of May issued the following media release: 

13^th May 2007 : Last week, Gerry and Kate McCann instructed The International Family Law Group, London specialist lawyers in child abduction and international family law, together with Michael Nicholls QC of 1 Hare Court, to help them in the search for Madeleine. They have been visiting the family in Portugal.
Gerry and Kate are very grateful for all the support and generous offers of help that they are receiving. Details of how contributions can be made to help get Madeleine back to the safety of her own family will be made available in the next couple of days. unquote

The newly named website is officially announced, when visitors to the site are met by the following message:

'From this morning, Thursday 17 May 2007:

Members of the public will be able to make donations to 'Madeleine's Fund : Leaving No Stone Unturned Limited' over the counter in any branch of NatWest and The Royal Bank of Scotland'.

So we have: 
First photo of a toddler which will not help identification at all. 
Tennis photo  taken on the 1st or the 3rd,- published wrong way round. 
In the playhouse photo taken on the 29th April, the girl is wearing the trainers which Maddie should have been wearing on the 1st or the 3rd to play tennis. 

The description of her hair as blond having chestnut tips down to the shoulder is  more of less the case with the red dress photo, but not the tennis photo or the pool photo (which I have studiously avoided in this post..) .However, hair tends to colour naturally the other way round, Bleached in summer, darker in winter, this rarely results in chestnut tips. 
The point is that this description was given on the night to the GNR officer and none of the photos, the tennis, pool or playground photo show anything like this hair colouring. 
What is also strange that only the small mark on her leg is mentioned as an individual marking.
The colour of the eyes and the brown spot (there is indeed a tiny brown spot in the iris, as can been seen in photographs published here in 'The logic gates') but no mention of a veritable thunderbolt in her eye which was THE identifiable feature of her face.
What's more, her different colour eyes are all but undetectable. 

It would have been helpful to find exactly what the description in the passport is, but this is not at all clear from the files. As the GNR had Maddie's passport however, any description given by the parents would have to be close to that given in the passport. Therefore we have the small spot in the eye, the different coloured eyes and the mark on the leg. But to give her height on the night s as 90 cm, is off the chart for a four-year old and  she is clearly much taller in the tennis photo. Obviously the 90cm cannot have come from the passport as that was issued a mere three months after Maddie was born. 

As Bridget O'Donnell wrote: Madeleine must have been there, but I couldn't distinguish her from the others,  they looked all the same....'.

Conclusions

Since the last five posts may have been rather heavy reading, certainly for those  who prefer ‘McCann Light’ here follow the salient points made in the previous posts: 

Part 1: In the technical details we see that  the Canon camera is unlikely to have been used to print the photograph. 

The printer - if the camera is docked  on the printer  can print from  a USB stick. 

It is not likely that it can print 30 copies without running out of ink. The paper used is not available in the area. 

However, the aspect ratio of said photo is wrong for the Canon which is the camera from which allegedly the photograph was copied. So we still don’t know where the photo came from. We do know that it did not come from the Canon as stated in the rogatories. Neither do we know how it got onto the USB stick or even if there was one that evening. 

A ‘normal’ way to print a photograph from the Canon which is pictbridge enabled, is to use the usb lead that comes with the camera and print from the camera direct. This simple method is never even mentioned. 

Conclusion: if there was a USB key, it already had the photo on it. Both ROB and AT talk about one photo, one pose. Although ROB seems to be talking about the iconic red dress one and AT doesn’t mention the kind of photo at all. 

But as we will see, the plot thickens, as there were two photographs, different poses. 

Part 2:  GNR statements speak for themselves and give the time of their arrivals. 

Silvia Batista’s statement  gives a period of time  well before 24.00 in which the photographs are handed over. 

Part 3: ROB must have gone over the photographs questions four times in two days. 

Twice on the 8th and twice on the 10th since there are two lots of questions on the printing of the photo. 

Only one photo is mentioned and from ROB’s description it was the iconic one. He cannot remember what photo it was as he’s seen so many since. Since PdL was plastered with hundreds of these posters for weeks, it’s rather strange the image escapes him. 

The printing  episode is reduced to the vaguest recollection.  Most importantly, he does  not mention Tierney or a USB key. Not at all. Instead he thinks it was ‘Kat’ - the nanny he must have seen every day when he signed in his daughter. 

He does give a time: ‘well before the PJ came’  which doesn’t help much but puts the time before midnight.  (one nanny gives midnight as the arrival time of the PJ) See also timeline part 5. 

Part 4:  Amy Tierney. She is word perfect on the 17th of  April. ( there must be a withheld statement before this as she mentions previous statements regarding the printer). This is a week after ROB’s rogatory interview on the 10th.   She mentions a USB key,  ROB asked her to print photographs. She was at her desk in the Tapas (that Tapas is more crowded than I thought - only room for 20 guests, no room for big round table but somewhere a desk for the supervisor of the nannies - ah well, handy for a drink) . 

Only fly in the ointment is the timing: at her desk at 24.00. Goes to her room, gets the printer (necessary camera to dock and enable USB key to be used  is not mentioned). Returns to Tapas, sets up the printer and paper - we are now at least  some ten minutes further.

24.10 starts printing.  The Kodak prints each photo in 90 seconds. Photographs need to dry to some extent so say the first batch of  five will take at least 8 minutes before they are ready to take across to 5a - another minute or so to get there. 

So at the earliest there are five photos ready around 00.20. More likely 00.30. No longer ‘well before the PJ arrive’  and certainly  much later than the time given by Silvia Batista when she gave the photographs to (probably) Officer Roque of the GNR. 

Part 5: The timeline speaks for itself. A timeline of ROB’s movements that night would be good but the only point to make here is that according to his own testimony he was in 5a well before the PJ arrived. So he could not have been in the Tapas waiting for photographs to be printed. He was busy writing the timelines and these were impounded hot from the press so to speak.

The PJ timeline in investigating the photographs. 

The main point here is that the PJ took no action (apparently) in tracing the printing of the photos before the 25th of June 2007, when the GNR returned four photographs of two different poses. Two of each. So - they may have felt the distribution of photographs within  the time given was a little strange when the absence of the child was noticed a mere 90 minutes or so earlier. But two photographs make it even stranger, certainly if there was no method of printing these at reception. 

The PJ interviews Silvia Batista on the 26th July, 27th July the photographs are sent off for scientific analysis. 

Note: the photograph on page 1 or Part One is a sheet from the GNR - not the PJ. 

The description which accompanies it is written by GNR Officer Roque.  Imo the original recipient of Maddie’s passport and the photographs. (see note 7 of Part 5)

Important note: the time of her disappearance is given to officer Roque as between 9.30 and 10.00 pm. (see note 6 of part 5)

On 25th June when the other four photographs are given to the PJ it is likely that the PJ then interviewed Officer Roque - this is not in the files. 

In any case, they would have  established the chain of evidence .

The First Photo - part 5 timelines

21.55 pm The Smith Family, (4 adults and 5 children) are returning from 'Kelly's Bar', heading north, all spread out along the street and they pass a man walking down the middle of the street, carrying a child.

21.30 - 22.00

When the alarm is given, at an unknown hour, which for the investigation is somewhere between 21.30 and 22h00, based on the employee statements from the Tapas bar, as well as other tourists, all the group ran to the apartment as if a medical emergency had occurred, except for Dianne Webster who stayed at the table for a few minutes. (1)

21.55  Russell O’Brien returns to the restaurant. 

22.00 Alarm  - official alarm according to TM

Kate enters at 22h00. Sees open window, raised blinds and curtains in strong breeze.

22.05  Dianne Webster goes into Maddie's room. The twins are sleeping.

22.11 A police source claims: "Someone within the McCann circle phoned from the Ocean Club the night of the crime to Sky News' representative in the Algarve. The call took place at 22.11. We were warned of the disappearance at 22.40". (No link - but see 2)

22.15 They asked one of their friends in the group to go down to the main reception, which is manned 24 hours, and call the police. The call was made at 10.14 pm or 10.15 pm, according to the McCanns.' (Timesonline 09 September 2007) (3)

22.15 Dianne Webster goes back to collect her camera - is spoken to by tennis coach.

22.17 Emma Knight has a call from Lindsey Johnson informing her of disappearance.

22.33  and Lindsey Johnson near the Tapas Bar and then initiated the MW procedures for the search of a missing child. (4)

22.28  John Hill is alerted by mobile.

22.33  John Hill arrives at OC and helps with MW missing child procedure.

22.41 pm - First call to GNR Lagos precinct (Guarda Nacional Republicana, rural police); The first call to Police Precinct of GNR (Portuguese Rural Police) in Lagos, a patrol was sent, arriving at Ocean Club 12/15 minutes later, according to Lieutenant-Colonel Costa Cabral, Head of Public Relations of GNR. 

22.52 Second call to GNR

22.30  - 23.00 Silvia Battista alerted arrives a few minutes before first GNR officers. 

She was at home and was informed of what happened by telephone. She went immediately to the Ocean Club where she arrived a few minutes before the GNR officers arrived there. When she  arrived at the resort she went immediately to apartment 5A where she found several people as much/many inside the apartment as outside it. Still she entered the apartment but left straight away  without having spoken with anyone who was there, since at the same time she was told that GNR  officers were at the main reception and she went to find them.

When she arrived at the officer's location she saw that behind them was Gerry, Madeleine's father, with another person but she does not remember who it was. 

23.00 - Arrival of two GNR officers Roque and Da Costa.

23.14 Gerry calls Kate (8 secs)

23.17 Gerry calls Kate (31 secs) this call is left on her phone whereas it is deleted from Gerry's. These could be calls from the reception to tell Kate they were coming back with the GNR.

This appears to be the best point to use for further analysis. At this point we have the arrival of two officers,  the timing fits: 12 to 15 minutes after the first call to Lagos makes their arrival at the latest (if going by the 22.52 call 23.07)  but probably earlier. Silvia B is called to reception, having arrived at 5a between 23.00 and 23.05. She goes to the reception area where she sees Gerry and another man behind the officers. 

SB  then accompanies Gerry to the GNR vehicle next to the 5A apartment. 

Once inside the apartment she asked those  present for the passports of all members of their family as well as photographs of the missing girl. She then accompanies Gerry to the GNR vehicle in order to deliver the requested documents.  See her testimony in part four re the photographs.  Bracketing these actions in a time frame of no more than 30 minutes makes the very latest that the documents and photos are handed to the first officers on the scene 23.37

Around 8am, I started to receive text messages and calls from friends back in the UK who were seeing and hearing news. [..]By this time our friend Jon Corner, a creative director in media production in Liverpool, was circulating photographs and video footage of Madeleine to the police, Interpol and broadcasting and newspaper news desks. This was in accordance with the standard advice of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the US.’ Some 25 communications with JC by Kate during the night.

3) Timesonline, May 6: John Hill, the Ocean Club manager, said the alarm was raised by the family between 10pm and 10.15pm: "The staff, many guests and the best part of the village started looking right away, a total of 40 to 65 people. The police were called and started taking details from the family and then took the decision to escalate the search."

4)  The procedure involved the distribution of leaflets that had already been prepared, with the names of the locations, for the members of staff, indicating the zones that they should search. Once the location indicated had been searched the leaflet was returned and another one with a different location was handed over. This procedure was followed by the members of staff, but on that night about 6 residents from the complex were also involved in the search. (Statement of Emma Louise Knight, 30/4/2008) 

5)  Timelines written on the sticker book covers are taken by the PJ. Writing these must have taken some time so let’s presume that ROB was in 5a for some time  before this whilst writing these, it’s unlikely that all those listed on the timeline were there to give the details listed and even more unlikely that ROB knew by heart where everybody was that evening. So it must have taken a while to put them together. Especially as the first timeline had MO added to the list. 

Terms of seizure:

At this time, it is considered of interest to the investigation to attach to the present deed, two covers of a child's book, on the inside covers of which is a schedule for supervision, hand-written by one of the McCann couple's group of friends and participant in this deed by name of Russell O'Brien.

This is the very earliest description of MBM by one of the two first GNR officers on the scene. 

Why is the coloboma not under ‘individual markings? 

Why is the very small mark on her leg visible in the tennis photo listed as such? 

Why  is it ‘blond hair with chestnut tips’  ?The blonde hair would be growing out in the winter, darker hair on top. Which can be seen very clearly in the playhouse photo, allegedly of Maddie. 

Why is the iconic red dress photo that of a girl with light brown hair? 

Why is her height given as 90 cm whilst it is clear in e.g. the tennis photo that she was of normal height for her age of nearly four? The given height is off the chart for that age.

7) There is the question of why there are four passports on the table, that might mean that only MBM’s passport was retained and passed from the officers to their commander as Cdr. Duarte says clearly in his statement that he does not know who handed him the photos.
However, J.M.B. Roque must have been in the car with his commander at the time. (see 17/10 statement below) as they drove all round the resort and J.M.B. Roque then left at 02.30. 
Sgt. Duarte received a number of photos( at least 5) of which  one - probably the one in Part I here went to the tribunal. Four  other photographs given to the GNR officers searching were presumably the ones returned to the PJ on the 25th of June 2007. (see comment  GNR Part 2)
Kate has one photo the next morning and apparently so does Brigid O’Donnell, (see comment GNR Part  2) but since neither she or her partner Jeremy Wilkins took part in the search I expect she was given it sometime in the morning. So that is 7 photographs so far, plus one given to John Hill to photocopy. 

The very perceptive officer J.M.B. Roque (it’s worth reading his statements) must have joined his commander in the car around the time that Sgt. Duarte says he received the documents.

(note: they reacted to the 10.41 call - so GNR reacted immediately)

Meanwhile the post commander arrived at the scene and he joined him in a vehicle and travelled around the whole resort. At about 02.30 after having been replaced by two colleagues, he left the scene as the police had already arrived.(note: as Roque was with the commander it is all the more likely that he was the one to pass Sgt. Duarte the documents).

The First Photo - part 4 Tierney

These are the two witness statements by Amy Tierney. In the rogatory statement she mentions having given statements (plural) in May. If there is another statement, I have not been able to find it. There appears to be an investigative timeline starting in June 2007, when the PJ received four photographs from the GNR. The printer is correctly identified as G 600 not G60 by the laboratory.  

AT states  in the later interview that she was at her desk at the Tapas Bar, leaves it open in the first interview and gives no location.  But why is the Tapas Bar still open at midnight and why should her desk be there as she is head of the Baby  and the  Mini Club?

In any case, she is in 5a very soon after the alarm and  covers the 50 - 100 meters in  thirty seconds.

From the reports requesting analyses of  the photographs I find the: "we have yet to determine more that would point to what occurred in the first twelve hours" very interesting.

When asked, the witness confirms that she has been in Portugal since the 18th March 2007 having come to Portugal to work in this tourist resort.

She confirms that she works as head of the Baby Club and Mini Club, the former being for children aged up to eleven months and the latter for children aged between three and five.

She confirms that Madeleine is known by her as frequenting the Mini Club, as she was aged almost four.

When questioned about Madeleine's behaviour, the witness says that she is a shy girl but very intelligent for her age, she tended to play with older children, the witness describes her attitude and behaviour as perfectly normal.

The witness confirms that she also knows Madeleine's parents as they would go to fetch her from the club, but she adds that it was normally Madeleine's father who did this.

When questioned, the witness states that she has not noted anything abnormal in the relation between the child and the parents.

She confirms that, on the night of the disappearance she was on duty and immediately went to the bedroom to see if the girl was hiding. She saw that the shutter was raised and that the window was partially open

When on the night of 3rd May, at about 24.00, she was at her desk at the Tapas bar, inside the resort, when at a certain time, one of the friends of the McCann couple, Russell, asked for a USB memory stick reader, in order to print photographs of Madeleine. Immediately the deponent replied that she did not have an USB reader, but that she had a printer with this hardware, which could read from memory sticks. She went to her room and returned to the Tapas with the printer where she printed out 20 to 30 photographs of the girl, using her own paper, in 10x15 format mentioned previously. The memory stick containing the photos belonged to the McCann couple, and came from their camera. She thinks that all of this took place at about 24.00 on 3rd May 2007. She presumes that she handed all of the photos to Russell, who distributed some to those present, the rest would be for the police authorities. As regards her printer, she says that it is no longer in her possession as it is now with her boyfriend in France, she says, after consultation, and in accordance with her previous statements, that is was a 'Kodak', model Easy Share G60, of thermal ink transfer, with continuous tonality. When asked about the possibility of carrying out a comparative examination of the photographs, with regard to their printing, using the printer described (in the statement ), she judged that it would not be possible to determine whether the photographs had been printed on that machine. From the technical point of view she says that they are domestic use printers, and that this model has already been referred to in a report compiled by the LPC, as being of possible use, they work using colour tapes (fitas) and in this way it wiould not be viable to compare the printing pigment of the photograph with the printer referred to (Kodak G600 Printer Dock). But she stated that this printing method, referred to as sublimation, makes comparative tests impossible, at least in as far as known technical tests are concerned.Portimao 17th April 2008 Inspector Joao Carlos Amy Tierney gives us everything, a confirmation of the time of alarm, checking the apartment and finding the shutter raised and the window open. She reduces the distance between the Tapas to a time of 30 seconds, halving the time estimated by the Tapas friends.  She describes Maddie as if she was in charge of her during the week, which is surprising as the nanny in charge was Cat Baker.  But: she works as head of the Baby Club and was on duty that night.  The night baby club finished at 11.15 pm. So how come she be on duty at midnight at her desk in the Tapas Bar?  She also feels the need to affirm that normally Maddie's father collected her.
